Obituary for Roy Smith

Roy Edward Smith of 116 Viet Street, New London, CT, was born June 20, 1950, in McComb, Mississippi, to the late Howard Floyd Beacham and Lucille (Smith) Beacham. On Wednesday, March 9, 2022, Roy transitioned from labor to reward to a higher place with the Lord Jesus Christ at Greentree Manor, Waterford, CT.
Uncle Roy, as he was affectionately known and called by his family and friends, was the joy midlife of all those he encountered.

After leaving high school, Roy lived in Los Angeles, California, where he worked as a Hospital Service Worker for many years at Cedars Sinai Emergency Hospital. Upon moving to New London, Connecticut, to be with his family, Roy continued his employment as a Nutrition Service Worker at Yale-New Haven Health, L & M Hospital for the next 31 years.

He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, New London. Roy was a man of integrity who loved family and friends deeply with a quiet, caring, and generous spirit.

You never once doubted his sincerity. He treasured time spent with family, especially holiday gatherings and casual get-togethers. He was a special man who thought nothing of sacrificing time, talent, and treasure for supplying the needs of our Lord and for others.

Roy loved football. His favorite team was the New Orleans Saints. He also loved spending time and would never miss attending 'The Big E' in Springfield, Mass.

Everyone will cherish the memory of Roy Smith, a wonderful, generous, kind, and spirit-filled man of God.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1 Garvin Street, New London. Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove in New London. Funeral services are entrusted to Lester Gee Funeral Home.
