Obituary for Ronald Whitfield Sr.

A limb has fallen from our family tree. Ronald Allen Whitfield Sr. was born April 14, 1962, in Andrews, S.C. His unfortunate departure occurred on Dec. 16, 2021.

Ronald worked as a forklift driver at U.S Foods in Norwich. Ron loved being around the water and often enjoyed taking rides to the beach. As well as fishing with his grandchildren, Amir and Alaina, and his niece Alliyah. One of his passions was writing and reciting poetry in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Howard Dowley. Ron leaves to mourn his mother, Julia Whitfield; son Ronald Allen Whitfield Jr. of Groton; his daughter Minerva Bell of Hartford; and son Anthony Sambosky of Florida. His surviving siblings, include sisters, Angela Hoffman of Los Angeles, Calif., Brenda Dowley of Lois, S.C., and his brothers, Timothy Jerome Whitfield of New London, Fabion Dowery of Lois, S.C., George Dowery Jr., of Washington D.C., and Darnel Street of Newark, N.J.; and his beloved grandchildren, Alaina and Amir Whitfield of Norwich as well as Lamonta, Jessie, and Jacinta Bell of Hartford. Also, among the bereaved are his best friend and "brother" for life, Robert Johnson, along with a host of family and friends.

I keep hearing his voice saying, "Grieve, not for me. Stand tall and live your life to the highest."

"Once you carry your own water, you will learn the value of every drop." - African Proverb.
