Obituary for Richard Johnson Jr.

Richard Emmanuel Johnson Jr., 35, of Mashantucket, CT entered eternal life on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022. He was born on February 2nd, 1987 in Providence, RI to Richard Emmanuel Sebastian of Mashantucket and Letha L. (Johnson) Wilson of North Carolina.

Richard, lovingly known as “Rich” or “Rich Money Beatz”, graduated from Ledyard High School in 2005. His drive for knowledge and passion for technology led him to New England Technical Institute, where he earned his Associate’s Degree in Audio Visual Production.

In 2009, Rich met the love of his life; Echo Montey. They spent the next 13 years traveling, laughing and growing together. Their favorite place to vacation was Aruba, where they would tan (mostly Echo), drink (mostly Rich), relax, and just enjoy being together. Rich proposed in 2016 and they were wed in Newport, RI in June of 2018.

Rich and Echo welcomed their first and only son, Legacy Emmanuel Johnson, on February 16th, 2020. Rich adored his family. He made sure that they were always his top priority and that they knew they were loved unconditionally.

Rich’s love for music started at a very young age, with a keyboard gifted to him by his father. This was the foundation for everything that followed; teaching himself to DJ, record/produce, and read music. He competed in the youth talent show for the tribal nation where he and his group, BHG, won the 1st place prize; which just so happened to be recording time in a studio in New York City.

Rich brought his talents to Foxwoods Resort Casino, where he held multiple positions. He found his home within the Entertainment Department. His creativity was displayed center stage in the numerous events that he helped produce and manage; such as Liquid Sundays, Kids Week, Royal Rosé, Tacos & Tequila, Beerfest, and many more. His growth and passion led him to his current promotion as Director of Ticketing Operations and Entertainment Marketing. During his time at Foxwoods he received the Employee of the Month award in July 2016.

Rich exuded love and selflessness in everything he did. He volunteered with the United Way food bank on many occasions, helped the Economic development committee create a visual presentation for the tribe's properties and land. On numerous occasions he became the resident family DJ, geek squad tech president, and was part of the Fab 4.

Rich gave so much of himself to everyone and everything he did. He cared more than any person you know, showed compassion for all and was devoted to his family. He was an exemplary role model, a gentle soul, and a genuinely good and kind person.

Rich leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, Echo; son, Legacy; father Richard E. Sebastian (Valerie Sebastian); mother, Letha Wilson and Nana, Sandra Sebastian. He is also survived by his mother in-law, Shi Spears; father in-law, Jonathan Montey; his siblings, Danica N. Hamlin (Albert Hamlin-husband), Richelleann L. Burley (Mitch Burley-husband), David Smith, Latoya Johnson, LaShonta Johnson, Tae Johnson, Wesley Applegate, Kathy McCall, Manny Moreno, Duane Crawford, Tahra Crawford, Devin Montey, and Precious Montey; his nieces, Xylah Colebut, Arali Colebut, Ja’Ryee Silva, Shamari Johnson, and Navaeh Johnson; his nephews, Richard Johnson, Emmanuel Johnson, Willie Dolison, and William Dolison; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rich is predeceased by his loving paternal Grandparents, Vincent and Delores Sebastian; his uncle, Kevin M. Sebastian; his aunt, Marie Tunstall; cousins, Andrew Tunstall and Vincent Sebastian III, and his Maternal Grandparents, Walter Lee and Josephine Goldstein.
