Ocie Charles Todd Jr., 78, entered eternal rest on June 12, 2022, at Hartford Hospital Saint Vincent Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Ocie was the second eldest son of the late Ocie Charles Sr. and Ethel Todd of Montgomery, WV. He graduated from Brien McMahon High School. He loved sports and played on the football team while in high school. After graduating, he attended college in North Carolina.Upon leaving college, he served in the Army and was placed on assignment in Vietnam. During his enlistment, he participated in swimming events, received the National Defense Service Metal,Marksman (rifle) award, and an honorable discharge. In June 1979, he united in marriage with his love,Nancy Blackwell, and was blessed with 43 years of marriage. They had two children, Leigh-Ann Todd-Enyame and Charles Allan Todd.Using his veterans’ benefits, he attended Housatonic Community College. Ocie worked for Eastern Bag and Paper Company as a warehouseman for 25 years and retired in 2006. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E Church in Bridgeport, CT.He loved big bowls of ice cream (any flavor), watching all types of sports – baseball, softball, football, golf, tennis, horse racing - and all the old western shows. If he went to a Dunkin Donut shop, he couldn’t leave without one of his favorite Boston Cream donuts. Ocie enjoyed listening to 80’s rhythm and blues music, particularly songs by Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, and the Temptations. Although his later years presented him with some health challenges, he rarely complained. He alway sinsisted on helping in any way he could and being independent. When he could no longer drive, he didn’t give a second thought to riding the bus to where he wanted to go or going alone for a short walk. Ocie was a gentle, kind, and easy going man with a dry sense of humor. Sometimes during conversations, he would say things that would make you stop, and look at him in disbelief; he’d slowly smile, and then laugh or chuckle aloud. He was a wonderful cook, often cooking meals for his family and friends. At outdoor gatherings and celebrations, before his health challenges, he was the one you would find working the grill. He loved and was loved by his family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents; Ocie Sr. and Ethel (Marshall) Todd; two brothers; Malachi Todd,Sidney Todd, and one sister; Patricia Moore (Leroy).Left to cherish his memories are: his wife Nancy Blackwell-Todd of Bridgeport CT; daughters, Naakai Greene-Breeland (Derrick) of Trumbull CT; Leigh-Ann Todd-Enyame (John) of Hartsdale NY; son, Charles A.Todd of Bridgeport CT; sisters, Thelma Holman (Thaddeus) of Stamford CT; Helen Todd of Norwalk CT,Shelby Hughes (Fred) of Charleston WV; brother, Christopher Todd (Teresa) of Atlanta GA; grandchildren,Zoe O.
