Obituary for Nancy DuBose-Knighton

Nancy Arvella DuBose-Knighton passed away on December 3, 2022, at Mystic Healthcare Nursing Home in Mystic, CT. Nancy was born on December 16, 1938, in Knoxville, TN, to Fred Lee Oscar DuBose and Fern Grace Cross DuBose. Both predeceased her.

Nancy was a devout Christian, and prior to her illness, she was an active member of Evans Memorial AME Zion Church, where she served as Laity President. The Nancy DuBose-Knighton Laity Award Luncheon for the Boston District of the New England Annual Conference of the AME Zion Church was named in her honor. She had a bold personality, and her presence would light up a room. She never hesitated to say whatever was on her mind and had a great sense of humor.

Nancy graduated from Knoxville High School and attended Howard University in Washington, DC. She was employed by United Nuclear Corporation in Uncasville, CT, and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, CT. She married Sol Knighton and acquired a stepdaughter, Melissa Knighton. Sol was in the Navy, and they were transferred to various states. In Vallejo, CA, Nancy was employed by the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. In Orlando, FL, she taught Math at Jones High School and was later employed by Lockheed Martin.

Nancy moved back to Connecticut to care for her mother, who was ill. After her mother’s passing, Nancy was employed in Home Health Care.

Nancy’s brother, Charles Douglas DuBose; her sister, Lena Mae DuBose Allen (James Paul Allen); and her nephew, James Frederick Allen, predeceased her.

Nancy is survived by her cousin Ronald Lytle, Sr. (Veronica Lytle); their son, Ronald Lytle, Jr. (RJ); her sister-in-law, Saundra DuBose; three nieces, two nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
