Obituary for John Singleton

John Lamont Singleton, 57 years old of New London, Connecticut (CT) entered into eternal rest on January 8th, 2024. He was born in New London, CT at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital on July 11th, 1966, to the late James and Irene Singleton. Since he was a baby John Lamont Singleton was known as Boobie. He attended New London Public Schools, graduating from New London High School in 1985. During John’s life he worked at Guidas, Electric Boat, with the City of New London, at the Broad Street and Montville Laundromat, and at Niantic Lumber. For 25 years John was also known as Coach Boobie. Coach Boobie worked with the football and basketball teams within New London. Outside of having Whaler Pride, Boobie enjoyed dancing, singing, cracking jokes, and supporting his favorite football team, The Dallas Cowboys. John was a member of Pentecostal Rescue Mission COGIC all of his life. As a child he sang in choir and was well known for leading Green Tree is Bending. Having a deacon and missionary for parents, Boobie followed suit and would find things to do for the church. Above all the things Boobie’s hands found to do, he enjoyed being a part of the pastor’s aid board and helping them sell dinners. He was called the CEO of the PRM kitchen. John was also predeceased by his brothers Paul and Jonathan Singleton, sister Valerie Singleton, and grandmother Ethel Scott. He leaves to cherish his legacy, two sons Lamont Singleton and Nicolas Singleton; a granddaughter Ahnalee Singleton; brothers James Singleton and Rasheem Singleton all of New London, CT; a sister Inez Singleton of Awendaw, SC; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. John aka Boobie will forever be remembered for his unwavering loyalty. Boobie was a man of his word. Anything he could do for someone he showed up and gave it 100 percent. Boobie will be remembered for his love shown, laughter given, and luminous spirit.

Services for John Lamont Singleton ``Boobie”, will be held Saturday, January 20th, 2024 at St. John Christian Church, 346 Shennecossett Rd, Groton, CT 06340. Calling hours are from 10am to 11am. The service will follow at 11a. Interment will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge 2163, 700 Shennecossett Rd., 06340, at 12:30pm.
