Obituary for Carlton Johnson Sr.
Carlton Ross Johnson Sr., age 83, of Groton, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022. He was born to Lewis Milton Johnson and Virginia Evelyn Sains in Akron, OH, on November 3, 1939. He has two brothers Lewis Johnson Jr and Lawrence Otis Johnson.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Adoracion Dalida Johnson, of San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines. They met while he was stationed, in the Philippines, at San Miquel Naval Communication Base in San Antonio. They were married on February 23, 1965. He also leaves behind his three children: Carlton R. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Lucinda (Cindy), of Ledyard, CT, and Mercedes (Mercy) L. Johnson and Rosemary (Rose) A. Johnson, CDR, United States Public Health Service (Ret.), both of Groton, CT.
He had a long career in the United States Navy as Submariner. After 30 years of service, he retired as a Master Chief Storekeeper. While he traveled the world for his career, his main priority was always his family. He was stationed at military bases in San Diego, CA, Hawaii, Japan, Alaska, Philippines, Norfolk, VA, and New London/Groton, CT.
He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Carlos R. Johnson and his wife, Jessica, of Gales Ferry, CT, and Briana R. Olmeda and her husband, Bryan, of Groton, CT, and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Aviana Johnson of Gales Ferry, CT.
He will have a private viewing/visitation for immediate family only followed by a burial service at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton, CT, on Monday, November 28, 2022, at 12 pm.
