Obituary for Betty Tate

Betty Mae Tate (Rosanne) was born September 14, 1946, to the late Dunk and Mamie Austin in Bessemer, Alabama, then moved to Eutaw, Alabama as a little girl. Betty moved from Eutaw, Alabama, to New London, Connecticut, in the mid-'60s to work. She departed this earthly life on January 27, 2023, at home.

She worked numerous factory jobs in New London in the early '70s & '80s, then became a professional Dry Cleaner Presser for two well-known companies in New London, where she worked for half of her life. When she retired from being a dry cleaner presser, she became a school bus monitor before becoming ill with cancer.

Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, entertaining & spending time with family and friends. In addition to her family, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Dunk Sunny Austin Jr, Willie Austin, Harvey Austin, and Lucious Austin.

She leaves precious memories to be cherished by her husband of 49 years, Bernest Tate of New London, Connecticut; two children, Curtis Austin & Frances Tate & 4 grand-kids; Curtis Austin Jr, Juanita Austin, Soleil Austin, Jessiah Fletcher-Austin of New London, CT; Six Surviving siblings: Nezzie Bell Austin (Ellis), of Cleveland, Ohio, Matthew Austin (Agnes) of Cleveland, Ohio, Perry Austin (Tiffanie), of Eutaw, Alabama, Napoleon Austin (Sharon) of Eutaw, Alabama, Mamie Austin (Major) of Eutaw Alabama, Sammie Austin (Ilene) Cleveland Ohio; In-laws Ernest Tate, Pauline Tate of Mount Olive, NC and Seanice Austin of New London, Connecticut; and a host of relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Thursday February 9, 2023 at Abounding Grace Ministries, 3 Connecticut Ave, New London. Calling hours are from 9am-10am. Services begin promptly at 10am followed by Interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
