Obituary for Alvenia Levy (Wright)
The family of Alvenia Wright Levy announces with great sorrow her passing on August 30th, 2023. Alvenia was born in Burgaw, North Carolina on May 18, 1936 to Edward and Mary (Grady) Wright. She is predeceased by her parents, loving husband of 66 years, Carl Levy and siblings Parthenia Scott and Carrie Wright. She is survived by her sister, Mary “Gini” Phillips of New London, CT. She also leaves treasured memories with her children Ronald Levy, Carla (Levy) Lee (Greg) Richard Levy (Janett) and Robert Levy (Liz) and a host of grandchildren (Mary, Marcela, Ariel, Kristina, Raquel and Robert Jr, Kylea and Joshua), great grandchildren (Alivia, John, Andrea, Jayden and Cadence) as well as many nieces, nephews and a bevy of cousins, in addition to a plethora of honorary additions. She was the matriarch of the Wright family.
As a child, Alvenia enjoyed dancing, reading, and listening to Motown music. She took pride in throwing bricks while always caring for her three younger sisters.
Alvenia was held in high esteem as a Registered Nurse at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, and was well respected by her peers throughout her career. She worked for over 30 years on various floors throughout the hospital before her retirement in the early 2000’s. Alvenia was also part of the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion in New London, CT.
She was a proud mother who loved her family. On occasion, you could find Al with her sister at a slot machine or doing her scratch offs at home. Nothing could distract her from watching the Buffalo Bills, Yankees, UCONN Huskies and CT Sun. Alvenia enjoyed camping with her children and grandchildren, going on road trips down south to see her sisters and cousins, fishing with her husband, and cooking for loved ones. Her lamb pot pie, fried chicken and lasagna will surely be missed.
She particularly enjoyed the annual Wright Family Reunion and keeping her family together. Teaching her family the importance of staying together and making memories will forever be a highlight of Alvenia’s legacy. If it was a backyard BBQ or traveling around the country to the Wright Family Reunions, Al wanted to make sure everyone knew the importance of family.
She passed peacefully into eternity surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023.
Mom, Grammy, Aunt Al, Sister, Cousin, Friend. Mrs. Levy will be greatly missed.
